Databases for Literary Criticism: Literature Criticism and Resources from Artemis and Literature Criticism Online will help you find criticism of a particular work or author. Another database that has includes some literary criticism is:  Salem Literature.

Other Relevant Databases IncludeEssay and General Literature, Periodicals Archive Online, JSTOR, and Project Muse.

Books about Literary Criticism tend to be broken down by Genre, Movement (Modernism, Post-Modernism, etc.), Author, and sometimes a Seminal Work (e.g. Moby Dick).  To search for books use Novacat. For further instructions on this please view the "Finding Criticism in NovaCat" box on the right.

Finding Criticism in NovaCat

You can often find literary criticism of authors or works in book form as well. To search for books you will use NovaCat. One option in terms of finding books and criticism of a particular author is to search for the author's name as a subject.

For example, if you were looking for criticism on J.D. Salinger you may try to search by subject and typing in his last name as you see in the example below.

When you see the results page you will need to change sort to: "system sorted" NovaCat  will then list the items by subject. With authors as subjects you may see a subject listing for "criticism and interpretation". These are materials that will potentially have criticism or analysis of an author or work. As you can see with our example below with J.D. Salinger, there is a subject specifically for "Salinger J D Jerome David 1919 2010 Criticism and Interpretation."
