eBook Search Tutorial

Search for an eBook

NovaCat is the online library catalog for all NSU libraries. You will need to use the NovaCat Catalog to search for books.

To find eBooks using NovaCat

  • go to the library's homepage
  • click on NovaCat Catalog 
  • click on the advanced tab
  • enter you search terms
    • you can choose to search by keywords, author's last name, title, etc.
  • scroll down to additional limiting options and choose eBook for material type
  • click the Submit button 

To view eBooks using NovaCat

  • after completing a search click on the title of the eBook you wish to view
  • above the call number field you will see a retrieval link which says "click here to access"
  • when you click on the retrieval link you will be prompted for your Sharklink username and password
  • once you have logged in you will have the option to view the eBook

Google Books contains many eBooks. If the book is out of copyright, or the publisher has given Google permission, you'll be able to see a preview of the book, and in some cases the entire text. If it's in the public domain, you're free to download a PDF copy. 

To find eBooks using Google Books

  • go to the Google Books website
  • click on Advanced Book Search
  • click on Full View Only to limit your search to eBooks available in full text
  • enter your search terms in the appropriate fields
  • click the Search button 

To view eBooks using Google Books

  • after completing a search click on the title of the eBook you wish to view
