Introduction
This Library Guide explains how to link to electronic resources from within CampusGuides. It provides sample code as well as working widgets for many databases. It also explains how to create links for a variety of resources and services.
Search widgets allow you to direct students to search a particular research database or other library tool.If you want a search widget that searches an entire database (say, all of JSTOR), use predefined widgets from the "Database widgets" page. Widgets for NovaCat, Journal Finder, and a Nova-specific Google Scholar widget are provided on the "Template widgets" page. As these widgets are updated, your Library Guides will be automatically updated if you LINK to these widgets as follows:
- Pick "Add new box"
- Choose "Link to another box in the system"
- Choose "Adding widgets"
- Select the widget you want to reuse from "Linkable widgets".
If you want to a customtize a search widget for a specific subject area, you will need to customize the widget. Explanations are provided for a variety of ways to do this. If you run into problems I'll be glad to help.
If you are creating content outside of Library Guides, you can use the sample code. This would be good for Facebook, Blackboard, or other web pages.
