NSU HCNSO - Ocean Campus Proctoring Policy

Exam Proctoring Policy:

  • Students must sign up for a time for their exam to be proctored through the NSU OC Distance Education Office.  If they wish to have their exam proctored by the Oceanographic Campus Library, they can sign up for a time once the exam is arranged by the OC Distance Education Office via the online Doodle Polls
  • Students must arrive on time to ensure they are able to use the allotted exam time.  Student who arrive late may not be able to have the entire exam time allotted to them.
  • If a student must reschedule their exam time, they must inform the proctor 24+ hours prior to the exam start time.
  • Students must show ID to proctor
  • No cell phones permitted.
  • Scratch paper will be provided by proctor.
  • Students are only permitted to take the exam during the allotted time - if they do not finish the exam by the end of the allotted time, they still must turn it in to the exam proctor. 
  • For online exams in BlackBoard - students are only permitted to use their personal laptops to take an online exam if it is open book/notes.  If it is closed book/notes, then they must use a library computer. 
  • Proctors cannot give out passwords for online exams over the phone - students must be present to take the online exam.
  • If a student has any questions or concerns regarding the exam, proctoring, available times, etc., Caitlyn Nay at the HCNSO Ocean Campus Program Office (954-262-3614; cn473@nova.edu).

Students' Responsibilities:

  • Email designated program office representative to RSVP for a date/time to have their exam proctored in person, for free.
  • If student fails to RSVP to have their exam proctored in person, they must make arrangements or register themselves with either:
  • Arrive on time and adhere to exam regulations (students who arrive late may not be able to have the entire exam time allotted to them).
  • Take the exam during the allotted time - if they do not finish the exam by the end of the allotted time, they still must turn it in to the exam proctor.
  • Use only the computers in the computer lab (no personal laptops, cell phones, or any other devices).
  • If a student must reschedule their exam time, they must inform the proctor 24+ hours prior to the exam start time.
  • Show ID to proctor, use only scratch paper provided by proctor, and adhere to all regulations as explained by proctor.
  • Direct all pertinent questions to the program office at least one week before exam starts at x23621, or oconline@nova.edu.

Proctors' Resopnsibilities:

  • Register in advance (by emailing designated program office representative) to proctor on a specific date/time.
  • On the day of the exam:
    • Put out QUIET PLEASE proctoring sign
    • Check student ID (against sign up sheet or login on Bb)
    • Ensure student using university computer (not personal laptop)
    • Open LockDown Browser on university computer
    • Have student login to their SharkLearn account
    • Tell student not to click outside of the window or try to navigate outside of the exam or they will be booted from exam and will not get another instance
    • Remind students that the exam has a countdown timer and of their set exam time
    • Remind students that the exam is closed book/notes/phone/Internet
    • Walk around every 15 minutes or so
    • Ask other students to be quiet if they are disruptive
    • If student shows up late to exam, let them know when the proctoring time is set to end and that they will not be permitted to finish their exam after that point, even if there is still time in the online countdown
    • Provide students with scratch paper/pencils if needed (cannot use their own!)
    • If student commits an infraction, warn student once and fill out a Proctor Incident Report (e-mail completed incident report to faculty member in case of student infraction during exam).
